The biosphere is where living things occupy. For example, if someone where to ask you where you live, you could either say your address, or you could say the biosphere. The biosphere reaches way up into the sky where birds fly and deep down into the ocean trenches, and includes all living things from plants and animals to fungi and bacteria. The biosphere is the crossroads of all the other Earth’s Spheres.

MRS GREN

Mrs Gren is an acronym that is used to decipher whether something is living or not. The M stands for Movement which obviously means that it can move. The R stands for Respiration which means that it can breathe. The S stands for Sensitivity, which means that it can feel, smell, touch, taste, hear and see things. The G stands for Growth and it means that the living thing can grow, whether it be small or major. The other R stands for Reproduction. This means that things can be made from it, such as babies, cubs, leaves, flowers, etc. It reproduces other living things from itself. The E stands for Excretion. This means that it releases its bad toxins. For us, we excrete by sweating and going to the toilet. The last letter, N, stands for Nutrients. It means that we need different nutrients in order to survive. When something has these things, it is a living organism.

Big and Small Factors

Many factors affect the biosphere and our life here on Earth. There are large factors such as the distance between the Earth and the Sun. If our planet were closer to the Sun, it might be too hot to support life. If we were further away, it might be too cold. Seasons and seasonal climate changes are direct results of the tilt of the Earth towards or away from the Sun. Summer months allow half of the planet to warm while the other half cools. Six months later, the temperatures shift in the opposite direction. The climate, daily weather, and erosion also influence the biosphere. These factors can often change the environment and living space for living organisms, and the living adapt to it in order to survive. These smaller factors change the living space and organisms must react accordingly. Even though at times we can control our lives and what happens in our environment, we are still vulnerable to things that are out of our control.
